Dressing up in white plastic, setting your phaser to stun and wearing a ring sent to you direct from Oa is all fun and riotous, and even better with a few drinks in hand, good music and good company. But wouldn’t it be cool if you could have all that and help a friend in need too?
Well that’s what a bunch of geeks, rockers, costumers and bartenders are doing come Friday, July 15. Watch Big Sky Mind turn into a home for aliens, stormtroopers, Green Lanterns and pirates as everyone gathers for The Cure: a fundraising event for the surgeries of geek friends Dexter Enriquez and Penny Angeles Tan.
Last December Dexter witnessed a fire that claimed the lives of his niece and his sister. Dexter barely escaped, and has been through medication, surgery and therapy since then. Unfortunately, the scarring left by the burns on his arms and hands are causing his fingers to deform. If left unchecked, Dexter will lose the use of his hands. The surgery that can fix this will cost PHP 250,000.00 as estimated by the doctors at the Philippine General Hospital.
Penny, on the other hand, suffered a back injury in a vehicular incident while riding a recklessly driven PUJ. This resulted in a slipped disc in the lower lumbar region (L4-L5). On some days she can move, but with much pain and difficulty. On other days the pain is so severe she’s nearly paralyzed. She needs surgery within the year or she will lose the use of her legs. She needs to raise PHP 200,000.00 before May 2012.

The second floor will have a photo booth, where you can have your pictures taken with Captain Jack Sparrow, Darth Vader, Clone Troopers and Stormtroopers, the Green Lantern Corps, and the crew of the USS Enterprise. Guests are encouraged to attend the event in costume as well.
